City Engineer – Eric W. Larson, PE, CFM, AICP The main objective of the City Engineer is to provide professional engineering technical support to the Mayor, City Council, City Attorney, Director of Finance, and other City Departments. The City Engineer oversees most capital projects as an owner representative and construction manager. This includes selection of outside contractors and architect/engineering firms that work on projects for the City. Current and past capital projects have included street resurfacing, drainage projects, city buildings, park facilities, and utility infrastructure. Georgetown is listed as a Clean Water Act Phase II community requiring the management of a comprehensive storm water program, including both flood control and water quality, by the City Engineer. Street and Storm Sewer System Management is coordinated by the City Engineer with State of the Art GIS mapping and asset management programs. The City street light program is managed by the City Engineer. Any encroachment onto a city street, such as new entrance, utility crossing, or utility boring, must be permitted through the City Engineer’s office. The City Engineer advises the Georgetown Transportation Committee on matters such as traffic calming and traffic impact. The City Engineer supervises the Supervisor of Construction and maintenance crew in the maintenance of the City’s streets, sidewalks, and Storm Sewer system. The City Engineer also acts as a liaison for the City and coordinates activities closely with the Georgetown Scott County Planning Commission, Lanes Run Business Park Authority, Georgetown Scott County Emergency Management, and other agencies. The City of Georgetown operates closure permits for two closed City landfill sites, in which the management of contracts, incident response, and maintenance activities are handled by the City Engineer. Supervisor of Construction – Ron Hoffman The supervisor of construction manages the Maintenance crew, which is responsible for the maintenance and cleanliness of all streets, alleys, sidewalks, storm sewer system, and other right-of-ways. He supervises and participates in the erection and repair of street signs, pavement markings, and repairs of pot holes and patching. Street maintenance provides removal of snow and ice during inclement weather, street sweeping, animal rendering, tree trimming, right-of-way mowing, and special event staff and clean up. The supervisor of construction and maintenance crew are utilized by the City Engineer for projects related to the maintenance of the City’s streets, sidewalks, and Storm Sewer system. |
